Dalton Bui graduated from the University of Houston in Houston, TX, USA in May 2021 and plans to begin studies at the McGovern Medical School this year. He majored in psychology and aspires to become a physician. He qualified for the Dean’s List every semester at the University of Houston. He was a research assistant at the University of Houston Cognitive Development Lab, a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Medical Honor Society and vice president of the youth board for the Sunflower Mission. Dalton is the son of Thanh Bui, an employee of Braskem America, Inc.

Amrin Chowdhury is entering her freshman year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, USA, where she plans to major in biology as part of the seven-year Physician-Scientist (BS/MD) Program with early acceptance into Albany Medical College. In high school, she was part of a pediatric cardiology research team at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and co-authored a peer-reviewed paper published in Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research. She was also a research presenter at the Society of Developmental Biology Conference. Amrin is the daughter of Ashfaqul Chowdhury, an employee of Cast Nylons Ltd. Her scholarship has been awarded from the Dwight Cope Memorial Fund.

Kylee Ficks is entering her freshman year at the University of Connecticut. She plans to major in health sciences and become a physician assistant. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Math Honor Society. Additionally, she was on the honor roll all four years of high school. She served as treasurer on the student government, tutored other students, participated in the Drama Club, played varsity lacrosse and field hockey and was co-president of a peer leaders organization. Kylee is the daughter of Paul Ficks, an employee of Rowland Advanced Polymer Films, An ORAFOL Company.

Colby Flake is entering his sophomore year at Utah State University in Logan, UT, USA. Following graduation, he plans to become a successful entrepreneur and develop new systems, products and tools to enrich people’s lives. He has already begun his journey as an entrepreneur, starting ventures in sports, card and board games, and inspiring apparel. He hopes to mentor aspiring entrepreneurs as well. Nonmember students are eligible for an IAPD scholarship if they are pursuing a major, minor or concentration in sales.

Gabby Gazaille is entering her freshman year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She plans to major in biology and aspires to become a veterinarian. Her outstanding academic work in high school enabled her to join the National Honors Society, through which she participated in numerous community service and outreach activities, as well as the Math Honors Society. Throughout middle school and high school, she participated in animal welfare activities, including working at an animal hospital and starting a reading-to-animals program at her local humane society. Gabby is the daughter of Jeffrey Gazaille, an employee of Polymershapes.

Logan Guleff is entering his freshman year at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, USA. He plans to major in business and pursue a career in the culinary arts. Logan was named one of the Most Influential Teens by Time Magazine and is a James Beard Blended Burger Winner. He was named Southern Living’s Best New Southern Cook and earned a spot on Fortune Magazine’s 18 Under 18 list; he was the youngest chef to cook at the historic James Beard House in New York, NY, USA. His first cookbook, Logan’s Chef Notes and Half Baked Tales, won Gourmand’s Best in World for first cookbook. He presented a TEDx talk on the “The Art of the Flavor.” In 2019, Logan was named a “Take Note” winner at the Teen Choice Awards. Logan has volunteered with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society and homeless programs. Logan is the son of Tom Guleff, an employee of Plaskolite.

Rayce Harrison is attending a graduate program at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in Lexington, KY, USA. He aspires to become a clinical pharmacist. Rayce has been on the Dean’s List every semester of college, both undergraduate and graduate level. He serves in the student government as vice president, is president-elect of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association, a mentor with the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Peer Mentor Program and assists with his school’s recruitment and orientation. Rayce is the son of Leif Harrison, an employee of Polymershapes.

Ekaterina Khrunova is pursuing her MBA at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. She graduated summa cum laude with her undergraduate degree. While in Financial University in Russia, Ekaterina received numerous honors and awards, including being selected as one of only 40 Russian students to be honored with a scholarship from the President of the Russian Federation to study abroad. Her research has been published in five academic journals. In addition to her academic achievements, Ekaterina is a member of the equestrian team at Bloomsburg University. During her time at Bloomsburg University as an undergraduate student she was a member of a water polo club and a President of the International Student Association. Ekaterina is an employee of SEKISUI KYDEX, LLC.

Elise Kohler is entering her senior year at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ, USA. She is majoring in music therapy with a minor in psychology. She aspires to a career as a licensed music therapist. She has been on the Dean’s List every semester of college. Elise played flute in her high school’s symphonic band and is first flute in her college flute ensemble. She participated in her high school marching band as drum major and section leader. While in college she has been a small group leader for the school’s InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, served as sergeant at arms for Sigma Alpha Iota and historian for the Music Therapy Student Organization. Elise is the daughter of James Kohler, an employee of Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials.

Shanthi Krishnaswamy is entering her sophomore year at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Blacksburg, VA, USA. She plans to major in industrial and systems engineering and pursue a career as a manufacturing optimization engineer. While in high school, Shanthi was on the Dean’s List, a member of the National Honors Society and received her International Baccalaureate diploma. She is a member of the Society of Women in Engineering and Engineering Without Borders, was captain of the high school speech and debate club, the volleyball team and the robotics team. Shanthi is the daughter of Rajendra Krishnaswamy, an employee of Braskem America, Inc.

Rafi Littwin is entering his freshman year at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, USA. He plans to major in business. Rafi was the valedictorian of his high school class. Among his many academic achievements in high school, he was on the A-Honor Roll his first three years, won the Cherry Hill High School West Mathematics League his sophomore and junior years, won his schools American Mathematics Competition in 2020 and was a four-time recipient of the highest grade in his chemistry class. In addition to his academic honors, Rafi was captain of the volleyball team, president of the Jewish Student Union, executive committee member of the student government and participated in the Senator Ben Cardin Scholars Program. Rafi is the son of Mark Littwin, an employee of Plaskolite.

Parvati Menon is entering her freshman year at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She plans to major in computer engineering. Her numerous academic achievements in high school include being named a Governor’s Honor Scholar, which is awarded to the top 0.003 percent of students in the state of Georgia. In addition, she was awarded the Super Senior Science Award from the Science National Honors Society, and belongs to the National Honors Society, the National Technical Honors Society and the National Math Honors Society (Mu Alpha Beta). Her research article “Remote Monitoring of Drip Irrigation with Microcircuits & Sensors” was published in the International Journal of High School Research. Parvati is the daughter of Ravishankar Menon, an employee of SABIC – Functional Forms.

Grant Mikkelsen is entering his freshman year at Wayne State University in Wayne, NE, USA. He plans to major in biology and eventually become an orthopedic surgeon. Grant was vice president of the National Honor Society at his high school, played varsity high school football and basketball, sang in the school choir and served in student government as treasurer. During high school, he worked part time at Empire Plastics. Grant is the son of Jill Mikkelsen, an employee of Piedmont Plastics. His scholarship has been awarded from the Greg Berry Memorial Fund.

Paige Miller is entering her freshman year at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, OH, USA. She plans to major in biochemistry and pursue a career as a disease researcher. While in high school, Paige earned the AP Capstone diploma and is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. She was inducted into the National Honors Society as a sophomore, and she was named one of Indiana’s Rising Stars in 2019. Paige is vice president of her Rotary Interact Club, president of the science club and leads a National Honors Society committee. She was captain of the soccer team, a volunteer with the American Red Cross and served as a board member for the Amani Partners Kenya Nonprofit. Paige is the daughter of Christopher Miller, an employee of SABIC – Functional Forms.

Avery Norman is entering her freshman year at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, USA, where she plans to major in pre-physical therapy. Avery has been on the A Honor Roll every semester of high school and earned an Academic Letter each year. She is ranked first in her class of 329 students. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. In addition to academic excellence, Avery played on the varsity soccer and bowling teams and volunteered with a local animal shelter. Avery is the daughter of Jeffrey Norman, an employee of Regal Plastic Supply Company.

Sara Schwartz is entering her freshman year the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where she plans to major in special education and then pursue a career in teaching. While in high school, she earned a position on the Gold Honor Roll by finishing six consecutive semesters with a grade point average of 4.0 or higher. She is also on the National Honors Society at her school. Sara received an Honor National Community Service Award for participating in more than 60 hours of community service and was recognized as an 18 Under 18 honoree through the Jewish United Federation of Chicago, which honors teens who have shown outstanding service and leadership in the Jewish community. Sara is the daughter of Bruce Schwartz, an employee of Laird Plastics.

Ryan Turner is entering his freshman year at Miami University of Oxford, OH, USA. He plans to major in mathematics. During high school, he received numerous academic awards, including being on the honor roll and Dean’s List all four years. He tested in the 99th percentile in the nationwide testing services and won several science fair awards. In addition to his academic honors, he participated on the track team, was captain of the football team, played on the basketball team and was involved in the magic club. Ryan is the son of Kenneth Turner, an employee of Polymershapes.

Devon Varney is entering his senior year at the University of Maine in Orono, ME, USA. He is majoring in biology and plans to go to medical school and become a physician. He has received many special recognitions for his outstanding work in high school and college. He received a Maine’s Top Scholar Award at the University of Maine prior to enrolling and has retained that award every semester. At the University of Maine, Devon has been on the Dean’s List every semester and he was a Presidential Scholar (4.0 GPA) three of those semesters. He also received the School of Biology and Ecology’s Highest GPA Award for his first and second year in college. Devon is the son of Scott Varney, an employee of F. W. Webb Company.
Money for these scholarships is generated by gifts from IAPD member companies and individuals in the plastics industry, as well as donations from the association and its for-profit subsidiary. The IAPD Charitable Foundation also hosts fundraising events each year during IAPD sponsored events. Donors to the IAPD Charitable Foundation may take advantage of tax deductions on Federal tax returns. A receipt will be provided for tax purposes. Scholarships awarded were up to US$2,500 in 2021.
