elcome to the 2024 IAPD Annual Convention + connecX preview issue. On behalf of the IAPD Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Staff, we are all very excited about the events we have planned for you in Louisville, KY, USA, October 7 – 10.

We’re happy to be back at the Omni Louisville Hotel. The Omni hosted our IAPD Annual Convention in 2021 and everyone in attendance seemed to really love the hotel and meeting spaces. Unfortunately, Louisville was still recovering from 2020 shutdowns and many places around the area were not open or fully staffed. In 2024, we are happy to report that everything is back up and running full steam in Louisville, and it’s a really fun city to visit again!

Some highlights of this year’s convention include:

Keynote Speaker Alan Beaulieu – Beaulieu has been a favorite speaker at IAPD Annual Conventions over the years. He is retiring in 2025, so don’t miss this last chance to see him address our industry.

Keynote Speaker Matt Mayberry – Mayberry is a dynamic speaker, author and thought leader. His keynote will focus on “Transformational Leadership – How superior leadership produces superior organizational performance.”

connecX Trade Show – Learn about new ideas, applications and products from our exhibiting manufacturer companies.

Committee Meetings – This is where the real work is done! Jump in and roll up your sleeves to get the most out of your IAPD experience while shaping the future of our industry.

Supplier/Customer Meetings – Where else can you see so many of your manufacturer suppliers – or distributor customers – in one place?

Let’s not forget all of the opportunities to network and socialize during the week!

  • Welcome Reception
  • New Members Reception (by invitation only)
  • PAC Reception
  • Networking Breakfasts
  • Volunteer and Networking Activities
  • Manufacturers’ Rep Happy Hour
  • Charitable Foundation Fundraiser
  • IAPD Fun Run/Walk
  • Women in Plastics Mixer

In addition to all that, our Closing Party will be held at the historic Churchill Downs Race Track!

You can probably see why we are so excited about this year’s convention, but I would also like to address another great benefit of attending the convention and other IAPD in-person events … Workforce Development.

The articles in this issue of the magazine focus on workforce and career development. The IAPD Annual Convention, like many of our in-person events, offers excellent opportunities for professional and personal development for you and your employees.

Here are just a few examples:
Networking – There are invaluable networking opportunities with industry leaders and like-minded professionals. To network effectively, set clear goals, be approachable and show genuine interest in others. Follow up after the event to nurture these new connections. Whether you’re a seasoned expert or new to the industry or leadership, the convention can provide a platform for learning and career advancement.

Skill Enhancement and Learning – The convention also offers many opportunities for skill development and knowledge acquisition. You may find these in your committee meetings, keynote sessions, educational sessions and even conversations in the hallway and bar. Take advantage of as many of these as possible.

Career Advancement and Leadership Opportunities – Attending the convention can equip you and your future leaders with knowledge and insights that can directly benefit your careers and your company. There are many platforms offered to demonstrate your expertise and dedication. Volunteering or presenting can boost your professional reputation and position you as a thought leader in your field.

Reflecting on my own experience with IAPD, I have been fortunate to attend many events over the years, and I strongly believe that my involvement in IAPD has greatly benefited my career, professional development and company. I’ve made countless strong connections and have been able to learn from so many smart people. Every time I’ve attended an IAPD Annual Convention or Leadership Development Conference I’ve returned with new ideas, business contacts and an extra jolt of energy and excitement.

Early in my career, when I attended my first few events, I would look up to the industry leaders at that time and ask myself “what do I need to do to be in their position in the future?” It motivated me to learn more, network more and get involved in any way I could. At the time, the leaders in my company believed it was a good investment in my development, and I am so thankful for that. I think it paid off pretty well for the company in the long run too. Who are the emerging leaders in your company? I bet they would benefit as well.

In closing, we can’t wait to see you at IAPD’s 68th Annual Convention + connecX in Louisville, KY. This once-a-year event is crucial to making connections and building the relationships you need to succeed in the industry. Plan to experience all that the convention has to offer, such as valuable keynotes, informative sessions, plenty of networking and the opportunity meet new people.

See you in Louisville!
