Building Relationships, Shaping Policy: IAPD Members Open their doors to congressional offices

I

APD members are playing a growing role in shaping the national policy landscape by hosting congressional staff and legislators at their facilities. These site visits, paired with strategic engagement through Washington, D.C. meetings and annual IAPD Performance Plastics Congressional Fly-Ins, are amplifying the collective voice of the performance plastics industry at a critical time.

Site Visits Strengthen Local and Federal Connections

In 2025, several IAPD member companies opened their doors to congressional offices, giving staff firsthand insight into how performance plastics are manufactured and used in essential industries. These visits included:

  • Polymershapes – Advance staff visit in April and site visit with Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (R-TX-24) in May.
  • Konrady Plastics – Congressman Frank Mrvan (D-IN-1) in July
  • Primex Corporation – Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R-IN-6) in July and Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) in August
  • PLASKOLITE – Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) in September
  • Alro Plastics – Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI-5) in September

These visits go beyond facility tours. They allow policymakers to see the industry’s workforce in action, understand the precision and innovation behind performance plastics manufacturing and engage in direct dialogue about the industry’s role in the economy and sustainability.

Advocacy Anchored in a Clear Legislative Agenda

Each visit supports IAPD’s broader 2025 Legislative and Regulatory Agenda, which focuses on advancing a circular economy through recycling legislation, engaging in extended producer responsibility (EPR) discussions, ensuring science-driven microplastics policies and addressing challenges posed by recycled content mandates.

By connecting the real-world applications of performance plastics to policy priorities, members help legislators understand why clear definitions, science-based frameworks and balanced regulations are essential.

Making the Industry’s Voice Heard

With key discussions underway on advanced recycling, EPR and microplastics, now is a pivotal time for the performance plastics industry to be at the table. Site visits are one of the most effective tools for relationship building, education and long-term policy impact.

IAPD encourages all member companies to consider hosting a congressional site visit or joining the 2026 Fly-In to help strengthen the industry’s advocacy footprint.
