Catherine

Catherine is entering her freshman year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She plans to major in chemistry and pursue a career as a scientific researcher. A member of the National Honor Society, she was also captain of her high school’s Winterguard and Colorguard programs and placed in the top 10 players of the tennis team. She held an officer position in the My School Vote Club and participated as a member in the Paws Club. Catherine is the daughter of Carl Campo, Jr., an employee of Piedmont Plastics. Her scholarship has been awarded from the Greg Berry Memorial Fund.

Kelly is entering her junior year at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is majoring in industrial and systems engineering and plans to be an engineer after she graduates. She is researching the value of model-based systems engineering. She is the Recruitment and Fundraising Chair for the college’s Women’s in Ultimate Frisbee Team, a member of the American Society of Civil Engineering and a member of the Society of Women Engineers. She is also a member of the Rocket City International Council on Systems Engineering Chapter and a member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. Kelly is the daughter of Carl Campo, Jr., an employee of Piedmont Plastics.

Brandon is entering his freshman year at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He has been honored on the National Society of High School Scholars. He was also honored during his freshman and sophomore years on the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. He played on the varsity basketball team, junior varsity soccer team and was a member of the Robotics Club and Model UN Club. He currently volunteers at the St. Pius X Parish. Brandon is the son of Karen Dicang, an employee of Inteplast Group Profile Division.

Ethan is entering his freshman year at the Lewis and Clark Community College, IL, USA. He will be majoring in computer science and plans to pursue a career as a technical engineer. He was top of his class and has been recognized on the National Honors Society and the Metro-East He participated as a member in Students for Soldiers and was captain of the soccer team. Ethan is the son of Erin Eddy, an employee of Cope Plastics, Inc. His scholarship has been awarded from the Dwight Cope Memorial Fund.

Casey is entering her freshman year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She will be majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in astronomy. She plans to pursue a career as a mechanical engineer in the space industry. She has had a scientific research proposal published in Harvard Technology Review, awarded Provisional Discovery of Asteroid 2021 EJ19 and 13 Preliminary asteroid discoveries, a National Merit Finalist, among several recognitions and awards involved in science competitions in the STEM category. She is the founder of the CAD Lab where she teaches 3D modeling and printing lessons to underserved children in her community. Engineering is an eligible major for nonmember students.

Emma is entering her freshman year at Ball State University, IN, USA. She will be majoring in biology and plans to receive her masters degree to become a genetic counselor. She was in the top ten percent of her class and won first place champion of the 2021 Purdue Science Bowl. She was the Secretary of the national Beta Club and captain of the volleyball team at her high school and participated in the Science Bowl and the Science Fair. Emma is the daughter of Paul Haefling, an employee of Thermwood Corporation.

Lauren is entering her junior year at the University of Alabama. She is majoring in communication studies and minoring in political science and English. She plans to become a political speechwriter or a lawyer. She was named to her university’s President’s List and is a member of the Emerging Scholar’s Program. Communication studies is an eligible major for nonmember students.

Jonah is entering his freshman year at the University of Michigan, MI, USA. He will be pursuing a double major in environmental engineering and business. He plans to become an engineer. He was top of his high school class and has recently placed first place in the Metro Detroit Science Fair for Plant Sciences. Jonah is the son of Steve Hurley, an employee of Polymershapes.

Rebecca is entering her senior year at Grand Valley State University, MI, USA. She is majoring in psychology and plans to pursue a career as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She maintains her position on the Dean’s List and is a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. She is a research assistant at the Interpersonal Aggression Laboratory and volunteers for the Hunger and Homeless College Volunteer Organization and the Hearts for Heroes College Organization. Rebecca is the daughter of Michael Jermolowicz, an employee of Polymer Industries.

Kendall is entering her freshman year at Purdue University, IN, USA. She will be majoring in biomedical engineering and plans to become a dentist or an engineer. She was the president of her school’s National Honor Society and participated on the varsity teams for both cross country and the swim team. She was also the captain of her school’s Social Studies and Fine Arts Academic Teams. Kendall is the daughter of Mitch Lutz, an employee of SciCron Technologies Limited, LLC.

Gaven is entering his freshman year at the University of Guelph, ON, Canada. He will be majoring in economic management and finance and plans to become a financial analyst or an investment banker. He has been recognized on the honor role throughout his high school career and played hockey and soccer. Gaven is the son of Krystal Martin, an employee of Roechling Industrial.

Whitney is pursuing her graduate degree in social work at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She graduated magna cum laude from Elon University in 2020 with an undergraduate degree in journalism and international studies. She is a PrimeCare4Youth Fellow and is currently receiving training in trauma-informed behavioral health care for youth and families. Whitney is the daughter of Randall Miller, an employee of Astari Niagara International.

Kyle is entering his freshman year at Rutgers, State University of New Jersey. He will be double majoring in engineering and biology and plans to pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon. He is a member and committee chairperson of the National Honor Society and participated in soccer and track throughout his high school career. Kyle is the son of Dana Ostrovsky, an employee of Braskem.

She is passionate about diversity and inclusion in STEM and plans to get involved in its advocacy. She played on the varsity bowling team, the soccer team and participated as a member of the Key Club. Caitlyn is the daughter of James Rawlings, an employee of Polymer Industries.

Gavin is entering his freshman year at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN, USA. He is majoring in secondary education and plans to become a high school history and social studies teacher. He is graduating high school with a salutatorian status and was a member of the National Junior Honor Society for two years. He was also captain of the Quiz Bowl team and qualified for the National Academic Quiz Tournament four times. He is third chair saxophone and is passionate about music. Gavin is the son of Thomas Tuckey, an employee of E & T Plastics Mfg. Co., Inc.

He is a member of the honor’s society, Phi Theta Kappa and volunteers at the local food pantry. Trevor is the son of Daniel Walsh, an employee of Piedmont Plastics.

Kaitlyn is entering her freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is majoring in communication sciences and disorders and plans to become a speech pathologist. She is a member of the National Honors Society and placed first in state regionals for Future Business Leaders of America her junior and senior year, and qualified for nationals as a junior. It is her goal to have her own speech pathology practice and help patients in different parts of the world. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Jesse Wanezek, an employee of Polymershapes.
Money for these scholarships is generated by gifts from IAPD member companies and individuals in the plastics industry, as well as donations from the association and its for-profit subsidiary. The IAPD Charitable Foundation also hosts fundraising events each year during IAPD sponsored events. Donors to the IAPD Charitable Foundation may take advantage of tax deductions on Federal tax returns. A receipt will be provided for tax purposes. Scholarships awarded were up to US$5,000 in 2022. The IAPD Charitable Foundation was established in 1981 as a non-profit tax exempt corporation to provide scholarships at the undergraduate level to employees of IAPD member firms and their children, as well as students in various majors hired by the performance plastics industry.
