Air-Pro® compressed air piping system

Air-Pro® compressed air piping system warranty

Asahi/America, Inc. announced that the Air-Pro® PE compressed air piping system now offers a 10-year warranty. Air-Pro is certified by NSF to meet California OSHA Impact and Pressure test requirements to conform to the State of California’s Unfired Pressure Vessel Safety Order Appendix C requiring sharp and blunt impact testing at 32° F. Air-Pro is available up to 4″ (110 mm) in blue colored piping for 230 psi applications and black colored piping up to 12″ for 150 psi applications at ambient temperature.

Since 1992, the piping system has been made from specially formulated polyethylene (PE) resin, which has antioxidant properties that can withstand the demanding application of compressed air. Air-Pro’s thermoplastic material is also resistant to compressor lubricants and atmospheric corrosion from chemicals or marine environments. Arkema partnership to produce component of electric car battery cells

Nippon Shokubai and Arkema are joining forces to launch feasibility studies and establish a joint venture for the construction of an industrial plant to produce LiFSI (Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide) ultrapure electrolyte salts, a key component of battery cells for electric mobility.

Ultrapure and high performance LiFSI electrolyte salts will speed up the development of new electrolyte formulations for the next generations of batteries, including semi-solid and solid-state batteries, by increasing their power, stability, cycle life and recyclability, while reducing charging time in high or low temperature conditions. This industrial project will support the development of the European battery value chain and participate in the global need for carbon-neutral mobility.

Combining Arkema’s fluorochemicals expertise and Nippon Shokubai’s familiarity with the industrial- scale production of high-purity LiFSI, both partners have joined forces in a strategic partnership that has led to the development of an innovative and integrated process. Based on this cutting-edge patented technology, a LiFSI fluorinated pilot production line has been installed and successfully came on stream in 2021.

To support the exponential growth in demand for battery cell materials, Arkema and Nippon Shokubai are taking a step forward by launching feasibility studies and establishing a joint venture to enable the mass- production of LiFSI electrolyte salts at Arkema’s Pierre-Bénite site in France by the end of 2025. www.arkema.com.

thermoformable PLA films

Röhm developing thermoformable PLA films from renewable raw materials

Röhm, the provider of EUROPLEX®-brand special films, is developing plastic films using renewable raw materials. The new product is being developed under the provisional designation EUROPLEX Film LJ 21123/123 and is a transparent, high-gloss and stable film based on polylactic acid (PLA). Unlike other films based on PLA, this film has not been biaxially stretched and can therefore be thermoformed.

As the raw material production generates significantly lower CO2 emissions, films made from polylactic acid are a more climate-friendly alternative to petroleum-based films. PLA films thus contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the end product.

Sustainability is an integral part of Röhm’s global business strategy, with the company targeting climate-neutral production by the year 2050. The focus is not only on the development and market launch of new, sustainable products and technologies, but also the decarbonization of raw materials.

EUROPLEX Film LJ 21123/123 consists of certified, compostable PLA that meets the requirements for industrial composting per the ASTM D6400 US standard and the EN 13432 European standard. If the PLA film is not disposed of correctly, its persistence is many times lower than that of petroleum-based films. PLA films do not release toxic materials upon decomposition.

EUROPLEX Film LJ 21123/123 has a property profile featuring:

  • Bio-based and industrially compostable
  • Can be thermoformed at 131°F/55°C
  • Highly transparent, light transmittance of over 92%
  • High tensile strength and good flexibility
  • Can be stamped and cut
  • Can be printed on

Upon request, development samples of the film can be provided in thicknesses of 53 µm to 500 µm and widths of 200 mm. EUROPLEX Film LJ 21123/123 has a wide range of properties which make it suitable for various interior applications, such as high-quality packaging for food and non-food items, as well as decorative films for Insert-Mold decoration processes, or printed products such as graphics panels.

The bio-based film is also suitable for food packaging — which is subject to particularly stringent regulations — as it meets the requirements for plastics with food contact in the EU (EU Regulation 10/2011), the USA (FDA 21 CFR) and China (GB 9685-2016). Possible applications include viewing windows on cardboard packaging or thermoformed packaging with high demands when it comes to an aesthetic, high-quality product presentation.

The raw material used to produce EUROPLEX Film LJ 21123/123 is derived from non- genetically modified sugarcane. The supplier has implemented an environment management system as per ISO 14001:2015 and is certified according to Bonsucro, an association of producers and processors of sugarcane who have agreed on globally recognized standards for social, ecological and economic sustainability. www.roehm.com.

GF LOKX System™ Ductile Iron Fitting

GF LOKX System™ Ductile Iron Fitting saves installation time and labor

GF Piping Systems (GF) introduced the LOKX System™ Ductile Iron Fitting from GF Central Plastics, designed for use with C900 PVC and CIOD HDPE pipe in buried applications. The new system eliminates the need for any bolts or assembly tools, resulting in a savings of up to 80 percent in installation time and labor costs compared to mechanical joint restraint (MJ) fitting systems.

Engineered with a deep bell design, the LOKX System’s ductile iron push-on style fitting has deflection capabilities of up to a total of 10 degrees in any direction (5 degrees deflection per bell). This flexibility allows for extreme ground movement, making it suitable for seismic applications.

Another key feature to the LOKX System is its internal self-restraining gasket that eliminates pipe-to-pipe and pipe-to-fitting separation, even at high pressures. The self-restraining gasket has a low insertion force in addition to a lip-seal design with 316 stainless steel gripping segments. When fully engaged, the segments self-engage to form a 360° restraint that prevents pipe distortion and point loading that MJ restraints cause. Compatible with C900 PVC and CIOD HDPE pipe, the LOKX System is manufactured to AWWA C153 with a minimum working pressure of 350 psi.

In the water and wastewater fitting market, the installation for mechanical joint fittings and joint restraints can be time consuming and difficult to install depending on ditch conditions. The mechanical joint fitting was originally designed for use on heavy ductile iron pipe, yet most installations today are on PVC pipe in sizes 12″ and smaller. Designed specifically for use on PVC and PE pipe, the LOKX System can reduce human error and the amount of time required to install the traditional MJ restraint systems.

GF’s LOKX System successfully solves the problems associated with traditional MJ fitting systems. Its internal restrained fitting is leak resistant, fast to install and not subject to pipe distortion and point loading as seen with MJ restraint systems. The LOKX System can be used for a variety of buried applications in water and wastewater, seismic areas, corrosive regions, coastal areas with brackish soils and horizontal directional drilling. UL and FM approvals are pending. www.gfps.com/us.
